El IV Congreso Internacional sobre "Estudios de Derecho Islámico" se celebrará del 8 al 10 de mayo de 2003 en la Universidad de Murcia con el tema principal "Sufismo y Derecho Islámico"

CONVOCATORIA CONGRESO INTERNACIONAL DE DERECHO ISLÁMICO
Del 8 al 10 de mayo de 2003, la Universidad de Murcia y la Consejería de Educación y Cultura de la Comunidad de Murcia acogerán la IV Conferencia Internacional sobre Estudios Jurídicos Islámicos. El tema de la conferencia es Derecho y Sufismo.
Las propuestas de contribución han de versar sobre uno de estos sub-temas o paneles:
- Sufíes, Ritos y Derecho islámico.
- Crítica sufi del Derecho islámico en el Arte y en la Literatura.
- Actitudes de los alfaquíes ante el Sufismo.
- Doctrina jurídica de Ibn al-‘Arabi al-Mursi.
La Conferencia pretende ser una plataforma para especialistas en diferentes disciplinas (Derecho, Historia de las religiones, ciencias sociales) que se ocupan del Derecho islámico. No hay limitación en cuanto al período histórico.
La Conferencia está organizada por un Comité compuesto por Alfonso Carmona (Dep. de Filología, Universidad de Murcia), Maribel Fierro (Dep. de Estudios Árabes, CSIC, Madrid), Peri Bearman (Islamic Legal Studies Program, Harvard Law School), Camilla Adang (Dept. of Arabic, University of Tel Aviv), y Muhammad Khalid Masud (International Institute of Islam in the Modern World, Leiden).
Antes del 30 de junio de 2002, quienes deseen participar habrán de enviar el título y un resumen de la contribución que propone. La selección de los participantes se hará en base a tales resúmenes (su número no podrá exceder de 30). Los resúmenes, de alrededor de 300 palabras, deberán incluir:
la tesis que argumenta;
las fuentes utilizadas;
la relevancia para el tema de la Conferencia;
las disciplinas empleadas en el tratamiento de la cuestión.
Hacia el 10 de septiembre, se notificará a quienes hayan enviado resúmenes si sus propuestas han sido seleccionadas, y se les hará llegar un impreso de inscripción.
El plazo para el envío de las contribuciones (de no más de 7000 palabras) será el 30 de enero de 2003. Los participantes dispondrán de 20 minutos para su presentación oral.
La cuota de inscripción es de 80 Euros (US $70).

IV INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ISLAMIC LEGAL STUDIES
ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
Murcia, 21th January 2002
Dear colleagues,
The Organizing Committee wishes to announce that from 8 – 10 May, 2003, the University of Murcia (Spain) and the Consejería de Educación y Cultura de la Comunidad de Murcia will host the IV International Conference on Islamic Legal Studies.
The topic of the conference is Law and Sufism.
Proposals are invited in any of the following conference sub-themes or panels:
- Sufis, Rituals and Islamic Law.
- Sufi Critique of Islamic Law in Art and Literature.
- Views of fuqaha’ on Sufism.
- Ibn al-‘Arabi al-Mursi as a jurist.
Although the subject-matter is legal, the organizers emphasize that, as in the past, the Conference is intended to be a platform for specialists from different disciplines (law, history of religions, social science) dealing with Islamic Law. There is no limitation as to the historical period covered by papers.
The Conference will be organized by a Committee consisting of Alfonso Carmona (Dept. of Philology, University of Murcia), Maribel Fierro (Dept. of Arabic Studies, CSIC, Madrid), Peri Bearman (Islamic Legal Studies Program, Harvard Law School), Camilla Adang (Dept. of Arabic, University of Tel Aviv), and Muhammad Khalid Masud (International Institute of Islam in the Modern World, Leiden).
The Committee invites scholars to submit before 30 June, 2002, the title and an abstract of their proposed papers, on the basis of which participants will be selected (their number will not exceed 30). The abstracts should be about 300 words and include:
the thesis to be argued;
the source material used;
the relevance of the topic to the theme of the Conference;
the disciplines used in dealing with the topic.
By September 10, scholars who submitted abstracts will be notified as to whether their papers have been selected, and a registration form will be sent to all who have shown an interest in attending the Conference.
The deadline for submission of the written papers will be 30 January 2003.
The papers to be presented at the Conference must not exceed 7,000 words and must be a product of original research, analytically presented and based on primary sources.
Participants will have 20 minutes for their oral presentation.
The conference registration fee will be 80 Euros (US $70).
We ask that you pass this information on to colleagues and promising graduate students working on topics falling under the theme of the Conference.
